The market, along with many government buildings and facilities, closed in mid-March in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Efforts to curb the spread of the virus led to the closure of businesses as well, many of which have begun the process of reopening.
The city has yet to announce the reopening of the larger Market Night that fills State Street most Thursday evenings throughout the year. It, too, was closed in response to the pandemic.
Market patrons on Saturday returned to shop directly from farmers, but with some changes. The city asked patrons to follow new safety rules, including wearing face coverings in the market space, shopping as quickly as possible and maintaining a six-foot distance from market staff, farm stand employees and other shoppers.
The Saturday market is open 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the lot between Fifth and Sixth streets on Redlands Boulevard.
