RISON – The Rison Farmers Market announced Sunday that it will cancel its weekly market for this coming Thursday, July 16 due to the heat advisories in place and the projected heat index for this week.
“With temperatures projected to be near 100 degrees and the heat index well above that, we decided to be safe and cancel this week’s market,” President and Market Manager Jennifer King said, after talking with the Farmers Market committee which includes some of the regular weekly vendors.
The farmers market’s current health guidelines include required face masks or coverings for all vendors and customers during the Coronavirus pandemic. Farmers Market Vice President Douglas Boultinghouse said he felt the projected extreme temperatures would be difficult for people to handle without a mask under normal circumstances, but with a mask, it would be even more difficult.
King said she hopes this heat wave will pass and expects the farmers market to resume Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m. with its regular schedule.
